LA is located in southern California and is the primary west coast city on the USA. It is home to international airport LAX, and be warned, you will be subjected to rigorous and tight security checks whilst gaining entry to the country. Digital pictures and fingerprint scans are now the norm for international visitors.
Customs and immigrations staff are fantastic though, very welcoming and they are a great introduction to your visit states side - but only if your good! Please, never make jokes about security issues - you can get arrested.
Los Angeles is a mixed cultural society, and very welcoming, you must adhere to the laws and regulations of the land, these include basics like no drinking for people under 21 years of age, and make sure you check out the different areas age restrictions for other activities, including sexual relations.

GEOGRAPHY:
Los Angeles spans a widely diverse geographic area. Primarily a desert basin, the area is surrounded by the San Gabriel Mountain range and divided by the Santa Monica Mountains. Los Angeles County has 81 miles of coastline and altitudes ranging from nine feet below sea level at Wilmington to 10,080 above sea level atop Mt. San Antonio. Area rivers include the Los Angeles, Rio Hondo and San Gabriel rivers.

Southern California's climate has often been described as "perfect" and with good reason. It is mostly sunny and warm with gentle ocean breezes in the summer. The humidity is low with little rain. In fact, there are no unpleasant seasons in Los Angeles.
