Well, we have been hearing a huge amount of rumour's and silly stuff over the past week about Mardi Gras BIG GAY WEEKEND, that we thought we would give you the 4-1-1 about whats what for the weekend and whats really real and whats rumour!
Q: The Friday night is the only actual Mardi Gras event for Big Gay Weekend.
A: False
The Big Gay Weekend is a collaborative effort of New Mardi Gras, venues and promoters to ALL raise funds for the Mardi Gras parade across Friday, Saturday AND Sunday.
Q: Wristband sales have been non-existent for the Friday.
A: True
That's because they are not a pre-sale item! You can grab a wristband for the Big Gay Friday anytime on the day - from 5pm - at any of the seven participating venues.
The wristbands are $10 each - $5 of which goes directly to the New Mardi Gras Parade Fund!
Q: Friday's event is just for Mardi Gras members
A: False
Although we highly recommend being a member of New Mardi Gras - the BIG GAY WEEKEND and the BIG GAY FRIDAY is for everyone!
Q: Friday's Oxford Street event is going to be so busy, I won't be able to get into the venues!
A: False
Wristband holders have access to all 7 venues taking part, these include the Colombian, Midnight Shift, Stonewall, Bitch Boutique @ Ruby Rabbit, Nevermind, Arq and the Polo Lounge @ the Oxford.
The only possible restrictions will be the normal RSA and venue conditions - so if you love a particular venue, and think it might be busy - rock up early and get yourself in! - New Mardi Gras is hoping for a massive event, but the fun of the Big Gay Friday is to experience as many venues as possible - so spread yourself around! Share the love and hop between the venues for a real diverse taste of what the BIG GAY WEEKEND and our community has to offer on a fun Friday Night Out. You will need a WRISTBAND TO GET INTO THE above venues on BIG GAY FRIDAY!
Q: Which events have sold out?
A: The large scale dance parties and other Saturday and Sunday events that are contributing to the Big Gay Weekend / Parade Fund that have sold out include DAYWASH and SPLASH. All other events are still on sale. Lunchbox unfortunately has been cancelled.
