Iconic GLBTI community teenager, Constance McMillan, will receive a settlement of $USD35k The teenager who was barred from taking her girlfriend to her High School Prom will receive US$35k (AUS$50k) following a successful discrimination lawsuit.
American Civil Liberties Union represented Constance McMillen (pictured here in Guidetogay.com's 2010 New York Pride Parade coverage) and managed to change the rules from now on not to allow discrimination of this kind again.
“I’m so glad this is all over,” reacted McMillen. “I won’t ever get my prom back, but it’s worth it if it changes things at my school.
“I hope this means that in the future students at my school will be treated fairly. I know there are students and teachers who want to start a gay-straight alliance club, and they should be able to do that without being treated like I was by the school.”
