Sydney's leather Pride organisation - the group responsible for Sydney's Leather Pride Week and Inquisition Party has announced the winner of its new logo competition - with the winner announced at the launch of this years Leather Pride Week.

The winner was Alexander Evans, and his winning logo is shown here.

All the finalists can be viewed at Artspace in Newtown this week.

Some members of the community and observers have stated varying opinions on the piece, including that "It look like a weird Domino's Pizza logo" and "where is the leather in that? Is it red leather or metal?".

Another punter stated "its ok, not really like the old one - that one was globally iconic - but i suppose there is strength in the heart, i like that".

Alexander's explanation of the logo mark was "The Leather Community is extremely diverse and includes people of all kinds from a broad range of sexualities, gender identities, kinks, activities and interests."

"One of the things that unites them (aside from the interest in leather) is the welcoming and accepting nature of the Leather Community. Because of their visibility in the broader world the Leather Community are often in a position to be among the first to champion causes (which they have done admirably time and time again). As such I thought it fitting to use the Heart shape that is featured prominently on the Leather Pride Flag to represent the ‘Heart’ that is at the very core of the leather community, welcoming people, informing people and standing up for those whose voice is sometimes unheard. I believe that this is something that the Sydney Leather Community in particular has been doing for many years and I hope will continue to do for many more to come."

Sydney's Leather community will celebrate a week long festival, ending in the infamous Inquisition Dance party at Fox Studio's "The Dome" this coming weekend.
