Brisbane Pride Back Into The Black

The Brisbane Pride Festival Committee has announced that the 2011 Brisbane Pride festival was a well attended, community enhancing, financial success.

"It is with enormous gratitude that we wish to thank everyone who held events, volunteered and attended Brisbane Pride Festival events in 2011." said organisers.

The organisation also pointed out the special support gained from print newspaper, Qnews, who ran a successful Carnivale in place of Fair Day. As a result Qnews donated thousands of dollars to Brisbane Pride Festival and Youth Suicide charities. Carnivale, Pride Rally, Pride March and the hugely successful Queens Ball were all different from years past with new venues, new formats and a renewed sense of pride in our community and most importantly helped get some money back in the bank.

Aschleigh Perring, the newly appointed Treasurer of Brisbane Pride Festival is happy to announce the festival is no longer ‘in the red’. "At the commencement of 2009-2010, Brisbane Pride Festival Incorporated posted a loss of $15,000 which almost crippled the festival.  The dedication of the care taker committee and a successful 2011 festival, allowed the newly elected committee to finalise ALL debts and close with a balance just over $10,000."

Festival President Deeje Hanckock says he's very pleased with the state of the balance sheet. "It's been a great result, but of course the hard work of raising funds and expanding the festival continues, in order to see the return of a Pride Festival managed Fair Day in 2012. We know that Perry Park is a great venue for Fair Day and we plan to follow on from this year's success and keep the event at the same venue next year.”
