After a successful year of non-stop rallies, we invite you back to continue the fight for same-sex marriage equality.
What have we achieved so far?
In California their campaign has knocked back Proposition 8, with the US Federal Court deeming the ban on same sex marriage a blight on equal rights. NSW has introduced a relationship register for same sex couples to cash in on their rights as de facto couples. But... a relationsh...ip register? Maybe we would have been impressed if they had granted that 10 years ago! Right now it's not nearly enough to stop us campaigning until we get equal.. everything!
Who has been there?
Celebrities have been majorly happy to lend their face to the cause. Ruby Rose, Wil Anderson, Sir Ian McKellan and 2DayFM's Geoff Field have all addressed demonstrations in Australia, with shout outs from Dannii Minogue and Beth Ditto.
Gay-friendly pollies have also railed against the status quo. Greens Senator Sarah-Hanson Young, Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore and Labor's Bronwyn Pike have all spoken out at rallies against the homophobic exclusion of the marriage laws.
And of course, thousands of YOU! Did you know 2009-10 saw the biggest numbers of people protesting for same sex marriage in Australia ever?
Why come back?
No matter who wins this election we have a fighting chance of winning if we, well... fight! Internationally the tide is turning in our favour so a lively and determined campaign that won't go away can act as a push to make our politicians catch up with the rest of the world even if they REALLY don't want to.
